Steampunk at the end of the aughts...and previously

At the last of the first decade of the *21*st century, NVE (neo-Victorian era), Paul Goat Allen at Barnes & Noble has picked Steampunk Reloaded as a top 10 Steampunk book of 2010. He also recognized Steampunk as a "landmark anthology." Kudos to Ann and Jeff VanderMeer, who are getting much-deserved recognition for their editorial contributions to the steam oeuvre.

Bookgasm on The Very Best of Charles de Lint

Mark Rose has reviewed our collection, The Very Best of Charles de Lint, for Bookgasm, commenting about de Lint's choice to include his fans in the story selection process:

"He was wise to respect and trust those readers, for they have put together a remarkable collection that showcases de Lint's truly awesome talent. He is a master storyteller, with differing styles, approaches and voices that he uses in a number of his different fantasy worlds."

Brazilian Steampunk Exclusive

Beyond Victoriana spotlights steampunk outside of a Western-dominant, Eurocentric framework. They are currently featuring fiction from the Brazilian steampunk anthology Vaporpunk, edited by Gerson Lodi-Ribeiro and Luís Filipe Silva. There are story teasers translated into English by Fabio Fernandes and Larry Nolen (also posted in the original Portuguese). It's quite a treat. I was particularly intrigued by Carlos Orsi's, "The Extinction of the Species" and Eric Novello's, "The Day of the Beast."

Steampunk Unloaded, Uploaded, Reloaded, Remixed, Cooked, Stuffed, and Codified

The above subject-line, penned by Jeff VanderMeer on the Amazon book blog, encapsulates the wonderous mayhem that steampunk has become in the last few years. It also precedes his excellent overview of steampunk fiction. Devotees of the steam oeuvre, do let Jeff lead you to the best old and new classics of "Victorian-era alternate history fiction or retro-futurism," ranging from Michael Moorcock's Warlords of the Air series to The Steampunk Bible, the much-anticipated VanderMeer treasury coming out next spring.
