Happy New Year!

Despite a bleak economic climate, I'm pleased to report that 2010 was Tachyon's most successful year ever. Happily, in our fifteenth year we've grown quite a bit, both in increasing our sales and making additions to our staff. Equally importantly, we're still getting great feedback from reviewers and readers alike. We truly appreciate all of you; I guarantee that in 2011, we'll be bringing you more smart science fiction & fantasy.

And now, a brief journey backward (courtesy of our time-traveling tachyon particles). The Chesley Award-winning painting above was created for the cover of Peter S. Beagle's marvelous The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche. The first edition of Rhino, Peter's first story collection, came out in 1997. Happily, it was also Tachyon's first major success. Created by the inimitable Michael Dashow, the rhino was even Mike's inspiration for our adorable little typewriter-wielding, bespectacled logo.

Now leap ahead to the first half of 2011. We're going on a field trip to the future of Mass Media and making a (brief!) descent into urban nightmares. We're visiting a city between life and death and lifting the veil between reality and fairy tales. We're also reuniting with Peter Beagle, who is every bit the master magician to whom we apprenticed ourselves.

OK, you can go home now if you want to. But isn't the future awesome? See you here again real soon.

The rhino picture for The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche has always been one of my favorite illustrations from the first time I saw it. The title is fantastic as well.

Glad to hear Tachyon Publications is doing well.

Wishing you another great year!

Thanks, Duncan--we're pretty excited about this year too! Our latest Peter Beagle collection, Sleight of Hand, is out in just a couple of weeks...
