Rewired and its (dis)contents

Jim Kelly and John Kessel have turned in Rewired: The Post-Cyberpunk Anthology. As you'd expect, it's outstanding. Outstanding in the field even. (Er, it's Friday.) Anyway, here's the lineup:

Introduction: Hacking Cyberpunk by James Patrick Kelly and John Kessel
Introduction: Kessel-Sterling Correspondence** by John Kessel
Bruce Sterling "Bicycle Repairman"
Gwyneth Jones "Red Sonja and Lessingham in Dreamland"
Jonathan Lethem "How We Got Into Town and Out Again"
Greg Egan "Yeyuka"
Pat Cadigan "The Final Remake of The Return of Little Latin Larry"
William Gibson "Thirteen Views of a Cardboard City"
David Marusek "The Wedding Album"
Walter Jon Williams "Daddy’s World"
Michael Swanwick "The Dog Said Bow-Wow"
Charles Stross "Lobsters"
Paul Di Filippo "What’s Up, Tiger Lily"
Christopher Rowe “The Voluntary State”
Elizabeth Bear “Two Dreams on Trains”
Paolo Bacigalupi "The Calorie Man"
Mary Rosenblum "Search Engine"
Cory Doctorow "When SysAdmins Ruled the Earth"

**Throughout Rewired, the stories are interspersed with excerpts from an online conversation between John Kessel and Bruce Sterling. As Kessel has it:

"In the spring of 1985, I wrote a letter to Bruce Sterling asking what all the fuss was about. Did he really detest the kind of fiction I liked as much as I had heard?

Well, yes ...he did, sort of.

The correspondence got out of hand. For several years we hammered at each other back and forth through the postal service (this was before the Internet took off). Bruce's energy was immense, his fertility of imagination imposing, his conviction of his own rightness daunting. I had my own moments. It was the most stimulating conversation of my writing career, and given my age and who I am today, I don’t think (to my regret) that it will ever come again."

Just for those letters alone, you'd have to buy this book. Clearly, there's kick-ass fiction as well. Email to pre-order, and we'll ship it for free (only in the U.S.; we'll work something out for our international customers).

And thanks to Jonathan for reminding me to blog this. It was, for Rewired, remiss.
